Watermelon Hydration Slushie
Nothing hits quite like a slushie on a hot day, and while standard versions are basically just neon syrup and ice, we can do better! This recipe uses the natural high-water content of watermelon and adds a strategic "salty-sour" kick to replenish those electrolytes without tasting like a sports drink.
Watermelon Hydration Slushie
Makes 2 servings
Ingredients:
4 cups watermelon cubes (frozen)
1 cup coconut water
2 Tbsp fresh lime juice
¼ tsp Himalayan pink salt
1 tsp honey
5-6 fresh mint leaves
Directions:
If you haven’t already, cube your watermelon (seeds removed) and freeze for at least 4 hours.
Place the frozen watermelon, coconut water, lime juice, salt, and honey into a blender. Start with a few pulses, then blend on high for about 30 seconds until the consistency is smooth but still “icy”.
Add the mint leaves at the very end and pulse 2-3 times. You want green flecks, not a green-colored drink.
Pour into chilled glasses and garnish with an extra lime wedge.
Why does it work?
Hydration isn’t just about drinking a bunch of water, we need to balance minerals (specifically sodium) to allow our cells to absorb the water we are taking in.
