Bases Loaded Bratwurst Slaw
It is officially spring which means warmer weather, outdoor sports, and perfect weather for grilling. Instead of having the standard hotdog, try leveling up your ballpark fare with this flavor and fiber packed recipe!
Bratwurst Slaw with Mustard Dressing
Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 pound bratwurst
1 red onion, thinly sliced
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 red apples, diced
Salt, to taste
1 bag shredded slaw
1 Tbsp dijon mustard
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp maple syrup
2 tsp caraway seeds
Directions:
Mix your dressing by adding mustard, vinegar, syrup, and caraway seeds in a mason jar with a tight fitting lid. Shake vigorously or until all ingredients are combined. Pour over your pre shredded slaw in a bowl and mix until well combined. Allow to sit and soak up dressing.
Either in a heavy bottom pan or on the grill, cook your bratwurst according to package directions. Set aside and allow meat to rest while you prep the remainder of the slaw.
Warm 2 Tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the red onion until very tender and slightly caramelized. Once it reaches this point, stir in the apples and cook for approximately 5 more minutes. Add salt to taste.
Add onions and apples to slaw and mix in. Slice bratwurst into bite size pieces and mix in.
